Nightmarishly claustrophobic story of six women trapped in an unexplored cave system when a rockslide blocks their exit route. I actually liked this in an over the top, cheesy, big-budget kind of way (for which I’m a sucker.) The Decent (2005) Where they encounter Kong, a giant gorilla who they capture and take back to New York. King Kong (2005)Īn ambitious filmmaker and his crew hire a ship to travel to the mysterious Skull Island. This homage to the B-movies of the 50s feels like it should have been made in the 90s. Toxic Waste (what else!) causes spiders in a small American mining town to grow to monstrous proportions and attack David Arquette Lansdale, floats your boat (and really why wouldn’t it) then Bubba Ho-Tep may be just the film for you. If a film featuring Elvis living in a retirement home and fighting off a soul-sucking, cowboy/reanimated Egyptian mummy, with what may or may not be John F Kenedy, based on a novella by Joe R. Vin Diesel fights a planet full of light phobic nasties. Some of the better creature feature offerings from the noughties (in date order) include: Ginger snaps (2000) A couple of Mimic sequels, but none of these make the list. Predator (which I seem to recall was shit but I enjoyed it anyway). There were lots of sequels in the 00’s – Various Anacondas, giant lake-based crocodiles, Sand snakes, Alien vs. Including in my humble opinion one of the best horror movies of all time – The Descent. Still, there were defo some corkers that are worth dusting off every once in a while. I think the naughties were less great for Creature Features, at least of the cheesy, big-budget kind that floats my boat. Found footage, torture porn (blurgh) and bucket loads of excellent Zombie movies!!!! With a number of trends from J-Horror inspired and Spanish-language supernatural chillers to the ultra-violent French New Wave Horror. Stay tuned for more updates on Project Silence. The decade 2000-2010 was actually a pretty stellar year for horror. No other release dates are set yet, including in South Korea - it's expected to open sometime later this year. The film is premiering soon at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in France - it's playing in the Midnight Screenings section this month. The screenplay is written by Tae-gon Kim, Yong-hwa Kim, and Joo-Suk Park. Project Silence, also known as Talchul: Project Silence or Silence or 탈출 in Korean, is directed by Korean filmmaker Tae-gon Kim, director of the films The Pot, Hwan-sang-geuk-jang, The Sunshine Boys, and Familyhood previously. Here's the first teaser trailer (+ poster) for Tae-gon Kim's Project Silence, direct from YouTube:Ī story of people struggling to survive against an unexpected threat while trapped in the Airport Bridge on the verge of collapse, in thick fog where it’s impossible to see even an inch ahead. It's funny that they combine a bridge collapse disaster movie with a creature future horror concept with these crazy dogs. They're dogs? Perhaps manufactured super killer dogs? The ensemble cast features Lee Sun Kyun, Ju Ji Hoon, Kim Hie Won, Moon Sung Geun, Ye Su Jeong, Kim Tae Woo, Park Hee Von, Park Ju Hyun, and Kim Su An. That's all the short synopsis says - though this teaser hints that the "beast" is really multiple beasts. As the bridge threatens to collapse after an accident, an "unknown beast" is unleashed. The plot of Project Silence takes place on the bridge connecting Incheon Airport to the mainland, where a bunch of people are desperately fighting for their survival. The film is premiering at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival this month in the Midnight section, one of their annual Korean thriller picks to show each year. "Have you heard of the Silence Project?" CJ Entertainment has revealed a first look teaser trailer for the film Project Silence, a new fantasy disaster thriller / survival creature feature from Korea.
